Devoted but “mad,” two black Mormons challenge church culture
“Diary of Two Mad Black Mormons” authors and “Sistas in Zion” Tamu Smith and Zandra Vranes want to raise the profile of African-Americans within the Church of Latter Day Saints, which banned blacks from its priesthood for over a hundred years, all the while living their Mormon faith with “a little more sass.”
It was so fun to be able to follow these two women around for a few days… there are moments in the interview that I couldn’t not laugh. The toughest part was having to cutting out so many laughs. The constant hilarity these two dish out is impressive. It was a pleasure getting to know Tamu and Zandra and telling their story.
